Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City Arrival

Activities: Upon arrival, you will be met outside the baggage claim area by your guide who will escort you to a waiting vehicle for your transfer to downtown with a brief introduction en route. Your guide will be holding a welcome signboard with the Trekking Ha Giang LOGO & your name. During the drive your guide will provide an introduction to Ho Chi Minh City Saigon is a city that never sleeps and offers a plethora of great restaurants and bars catering to all tastes, from street food vendors to the rooftop bar at the Rex Hotel, where international correspondents covered the Vietnam War and where the U.S. military attaché’s press briefing was held daily and dubbed the “Five O’clock Follies”. Whatever your interests, be sure to ask your guide for personal recommendations.

Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta – My Tho – Can Tho

Activities: You’ll be collected from your hotel in the morning by your guide. You’ll journey through the fascinating urban sprawl of Saigon where you can enjoy the architectural surprises of the most varied city in Asia. Then it’s off to My Tho to join a Mekong River Cruise. Your boat heads down the Bao Dinh natural canal and you can enjoy taking some leisurely snaps of the Stilt Houses and brimming fruit plantations along the banks.The boat then meets up with the Tan Thach natural canal and your route is shaded by the canopy of water coconut trees. You’ll spend some time with a local family and you can enjoy learning about the agricultural heritage of Vietnam. We spend some time trekking through the fruit plantations of Thoi Son island where you’ll be able to sample the local delicacies. Your day begins to wind down as you take a row boat ride along the creeks. You will then be picked up by a motorized boat and take to Can Tho. You’ll spend the night in Can Tho in a hotel. There will be some free time for you to explore the locality if you wish.

Day 3: Can Tho – Cai Rang Floating Market – Ho Chi Minh City

Activities: Enjoy the fresh air and country life along the banks of the Mekong again in the morning. Take breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a casual cruise down the Mekong itself all the way to Cai Rang Floating market. Cai Rang is the largest floating market anywhere in the region and you’ll find absolutely everything that Vietnam has to offer here. We’ve found that many people wish they’d taken a bigger bag once they’re done shopping! One you’ve found your way out of the hustle and bustle of the market your guide will arrange for you to return to Saigon. Here you’ll return to your hotel and enjoy a final night in Vietam’s most exciting Southern city.

Day 4: Ho Chi Minh City tour – Danang - Hoian

Activities: Breakfast at your hotel, visit the War Remnants Museum or the History Museum depending on your personal preference. You will also visit the former Presidential Palace which is still a gloriously beautiful building. The day finishes up with a leisurely stroll past (and into) the Old Post Office, the Notre Dame Cathedral, Dong Khoi Street, the Opera House and City Hall. Then the evening is yours to enjoy the local atmosphere or perhaps an authentic Vietnamese meal and then free time for visiting Ben Thanh Market and then transfer to airport for a flight to Danang. Arrive in Danang, pick you up and transfer you to Hoian. Free time for relaxing on Cua Dai Beach.

Day 5: Hoian – Tra Que Village

Activities: Breakfast at your hotel and then it’s time for a little bit of exercise and a bike ride to Tra Que Vilage and a visit to a local farm. This is a very special involvement in true Vietnamese rural life. You will learn about the history of the village and then be shown the daily practices of growing vegetables. You will learn how the vegetables are used in traditional Vietnamese medicine. You will join in the activities of the farmers – collecting seaweed fertilizer, sowing, raking, watering and picking. Your cultural immersion continues as you join the family to prepare and eat the lunch you have helped grow. You will also taste other local specialties such a Tam huu (spring roll) and Bahn xeo (pancake). Of course you must also join in the after lunch nap before returning to the fiel to learn how to harvest and wrap the produce. Mid-afternoon we wave goodbye to your new friends and go back to Hoian and stop off at Nhat tomb and Ba Le well. Then free time for relaxing on Cua Dai beach.

Day 7: Hanoi – Halong Bay

Activities: We’ll pick you up in Hanoi by 8:00am and drive through the verdant Red River Delta to make our way to the famous UNESCO World Heritage site, Halong Bay. You’ll board a luxury junk ship for an overnight cruise– while you relax on-board you can marvel at the incredible limestone karsts that jut out of the sea and the thousands of jungle-covered islands that seem to float on the waves. The turquoise waters of the Gulf of Tonkin swirl around hidden grottoes and ancient caves to create an enchanting, timeless world. We’ll serve you a fresh seafood lunch while you sit back and relax as you enjoy the incredible view with a drink in your hand. We’ll take you to a traditional fishing village where the locals have created an entire town on the decks of their boats, then you can explore Tien Ong Cave before returning to the cruise for cocktails, canapés, and a spectacular sunset. End your day with a romantic, candlelit dinner.

Activities: Awaken on board to the magnificent vista of Halong Bay in the morning. Begin the day with a Tai Chi class on deck in the early morning mist or just admire the beautiful scenery as the sun rises over the azure waters. The boat moves on its way as you decide when its time to actually arise. As you make your way back to Halong City you partake in a leisurely brunch that is provided on board. Jump onto dry land and hop into the vehicle with you guide for a relaxing ride back through the rural countryside and into Hanoi and your hotel. We recently return from an 10 day tour of Vietnam. Our tour start with a group of 9 people from Saigon and finish in Hanoi. We appreciated a fabulous tour, clean and comfortable three-star hotels, breakfast buffets , all the meals (lunch + dinner were organized at luxury restaurant in each region).The drivers and guides were helpful, timely, knowledgeable and concerned about our well-being.
