All tourists traveling to Ha Giang need to have apply for a travel permit which can be obtained at Ha Giang police station in Ha Giang town. With this permit travellers are authorized to visit different remote villages, located near the border in Ha Giang province.
They also have the authorization to stay overnight in 4 border districts: Dong Van, Meo Vac, Lung Cu and Bac Me.
Normally travellers coming to Ha Giang from Hanoi, spend the first night in Ha Giang town, apply for permit at police station and continue the trip the next day. For those who come to Ha Giang province from Cao Bang or Ba Be National park, they can also apply for the travel permit in Meo Vac or this document can be arranged through Hanoi tour operator.
